Synopsis
This play is just the everyday tale of a couple of couples, one of whom,
Max and Fiona, have moved out of their lovely rented flat they really liked,
with a garden, and not one but two toilets, swapping it for a fourth-floor
apartment in a lovely urban location, at the right end of town. And the rent on
apartment is cheap, almost unbelievably cheap. If this apartment was not everything
they wanted, it was certainly everything that Max wanted.
All is going well until Fiona confides to her friend Stella
that she found a "burner" phone, taped to the bottom of a drawer. This
discovery naturally puts a whole series of doubts upon her marriage, and
her friends, and her friends' relationships, and the accusations start to
fly. But that is just the everyday folk stuff, that could happen in any
marrage. But when when they confront the estate agent who rented them the flat,
an agent with the unlikely moniker of Julian Crowder-Hathers, things really begin
to go off the rails. Turns out that a deal "too good to be true"
really was, well, too good to be true.
